PRESENTATIONS AT THE JANUARY 16, 2017, TOWN COUNCIL MEETING:

Community Support Services

Council received a presentation from a representative of Community Support Services of Niagara, a non-profit organization that provides services to seniors and adults with disabilities to help them live independently in their own home. Niagara North Family Health Team




A representative from the Garden City Family Health Team updated Council on the Niagara-on-the-Lake and Garden City Family Health Team merger, taking place April 1, 2017, to form the Niagara North Family Health Team. The merger is said to increase access to programs and services, provide more flexibility and facilitate greater community outreach. A community information night regarding this merger is scheduled for February 2, 2017, at the NOTL Community Centre (14 Anderson Lane, NOTL) from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

NOTL Public Library Update
The Chief Librarian/CEO of the NOTL Public Library provided Council with an update on the fundraising efforts and progress of the library renovation. Council was advised that the library is approximately $45,000 away from their $250,000 target and the operations are scheduled to return to the renovated site in spring 2017.

Council approved the following at their January 16, 2017, meeting:

An Official Plan Amendment, Zoning By-law Amendment, and Draft Plan of Subdivision for 128-174 Anne Street, approved as amended, which reduced the number of townhouse dwelling units to 58 with the inclusion of a park.

The adoption of the Site Plan Agreement for 1096 Lakeshore Road, Konzelmann Estate Winery, to permit an extension to the existing parking area for an additional 38 spaces.

The submission from the UNESCO Committee was supported by Council to be included in Parks Canada's Tentative List as the first step to being considered for a World Heritage Designation. 

A $0.50/hour increase in metered parking fees; the extension of pay parking from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.; and the implementation of pay parking on sections of Wellington Street (Picton to Byron) and Byron Street (King to Parks Canada lands).

The appointment of Councillor Wiens to the Library Board to fill the Council member vacancy and the appointments of Councillor Flynn and Councillor Miele to the Glendale Task Force to replace Councillor Bau-Coote and Councillor Wiens for the balance of the 2014-2018 Council term.
