PRESENTATIONS AT THE FEBRUARY 13, 2017, TOWN COUNCIL MEETING:

Niagara-on-the-Lake Peewee Thunderhawks
The NOTL Peewee Thunderhawks lacrosse team was presented with plaques on behalf of the Town for their accomplishment as the 2016 Provincial Peewee Field 'C' champions!

Niagara-on-the-Lake Bantam Thunderhawks
The NOTL Bantam Thunderhawks lacrosse team was also presented with plaques on behalf of the Town for their achievement as the 2016 Provincial Bantam Box 'C' champions!


2016 Firefighter Recruits
Council presented the 2016 Niagara-on-the-Lake firefighter recruits with helmets, and retiring Fire Chief Alex Burbidge welcomed the Town's new Fire Chief Rob Grimwood and presented him with a helmet.  

Lord Mayor Pat Darte acknowledged this was retiring Fire Chief Alex Burbidge's last Council Meeting and thanked him for his professionalism and dedication to the community.

EVENTS & ACTIVITIES

Workshop for Queenston Street Townhouses
A workshop with Council will be held on Tuesday, February 28, 2017, to review the designs and uses of the Queenston Street property. A representative from Willowbank’s Board of Directors and a representative from the Queenston Residents’ Association Board will make a short presentation, and Council members will have an opportunity to ask questions. Residents are welcome to attend and listen to the discussion.

Days of Wine & Chocolate
The NOTL Chamber of Commerce's Days of Wine & Chocolate will take place February 17-19 and 24-26. Visit local wineries to taste up to 20 VQA wines matched with chocolate-infused dishes. Visit www.niagaraonthelake.com for more information.

Niagara Pumphouse Arts Centre
The Niagara Pumphouse is offering a Family Friendly Drop-In Art Studio on Sunday, February 19 and 26, and will hold a Celebration Party and Artists' Drop-In Cafe in March. Visit www.niagarapumphouse.ca for more information on their events, programs, and exhibitions.

 

council business
Council approved the following at their February 13, 2017, meeting:

An Official Plan Amendment and Zoning By-law Amendment for the York Road Hotel Complex located at the northwest corner of York Road and Counsell Street.

$18,000 from the Ontarians with Disabilities Reserve be used to purchase and install accessible doors at the Niagara-on-the-Lake Public Library.

Canada 150 flags to be flown on flagpoles throughout the town for 2017.

$60,187, amended from staff's recommendation of $77,000, be taken from the Parking Revenue Reserve to make enhancements to the 2017 Communities in Bloom Program and that any money used from Parking Reserves for the funding of the Communities in Bloom 2017 program be replenished from year end surplus.  

Repairs and enhancements required for the Dee Road pump for irrigation purposes.  

A tender from Demar Construction for the Melville Street watermain replacement from Ricardo Street to Lockhart Street.

A tender from Nexterra Substructures Inc. for the Field Road watermain replacement and road resurfacing from Four Mile Creek Road to Niagara Stone Road; Elden Street watermain replacement and road resurfacing from Field Road to Penner Street; and Lakeshore Road watermain replacement from Four Mile Creek Road to 150 metres west.

A working group, comprised of Lord Mayor Pat Darte, Councillors Collard and Miele, and the Town's Chief Building Official and Executive Assistant, to review designs and quotes for a new outdoor municipal sign and updated Coat of Arms in the Council Chambers.

The Delegation to Town Council Policy.

The Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program Contribution Agreement Intake Two for funding under the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program, including a renovation of the Court House, rehabilitation of Historic Erie and Ontario Railroad Culvert, improvement of the walking trail in Butler's Burial Grounds and improvements to the Sesquicentennial Peace Park.

Motions

Councillor Miele - That the chairs of the four Standing Committees of Council, or vice chairs in their absence, be involved in the 2018 Budget discussions with the Senior Management Team prior to the budget being presented to the Finance Advisory Committee.

Councillor Disero - That The Corporation of the Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake, on behalf of the Queenston Residents' Association, apply to the Niagara Community Foundation - Community Fund for Canada's 150th for up to $10,000.

Councillor King - Due to the July 1, 2017, statutory holiday being recognized on Monday, July 3, the July Committee of the Whole meeting will take place on Monday, July 10, and the Council meeting on Monday, July 17.
