Welcome to the Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake
There are a number of exciting initiatives on the horizon for the coming year.
Beginning April 2, 2012, residents and visitors will have access to a locally-run transit service that spans the area from Old Town, through Virgil and to Glendale, where passengers will also be able to make connections to other transit systems. The current Heritage Shuttle, which runs seasonally between the Fort George Parking Area and the Heritage District, will also continue to operate.
Another significant initiative this year is to increase commercial and industrial investment in Glendale. To help kick-start this initiative, two workshops have been scheduled for Council members in February and March to review our economic development prospects for the area.
Finally, this year marks the launch of the War of 1812 Bicentennial Commemoration. Our New Year’s Day Levee, hosted by their Honours, Lieutenant-Governor David C. Onley and his wife Ruth Anne, was a spectacular success and a wonderful way to begin our multi-year celebration.
On behalf of Town Council, I wish you and your family the very best for the coming year. We look forward to continuing the work before us and pursuing opportunities to make our community an even better place to live.
